City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs Announces 2013 Emerging Artist Award Winners

ATLANTA - The City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs announced on Monday the winners of the 2013 Emerging Artist Award at a ceremony at Atlanta City Hall. Five recipients were awarded in the categories of literary arts, dance, visual arts, theatre, and media arts. Each artist will receive a $1,500 grant.

2013 Emerging Artist Award Recipients:
• Corey Bradberry – Theatre Award
• In Kyoung Chun – Visual Arts Award
• Takara Clark – Media Arts Award
• Johnny Drago – Literary Arts Award
• Angela Harris – Dance Award

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to acknowledge this year’s Emerging Artist Award recipients,” said Camille Russell Love, Director of the Office of Cultural Affairs. “It is our hope that this award will help bring much deserved recognition to the recipients, each of whom are making a cultural difference in our city.”

The Emerging Artist Award was established to acknowledge and promote Atlanta’s new and emerging talent, and is part of the Contracts for Arts Services program. Recipients were chosen by a community panel with priority to artists 35 years of age or younger or with fewer than five years experience in their respective field.

The City of Atlanta’s Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA), a division of the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs, was established in 1974 with the mission to encourage and support Atlanta’s cultural resources. The OCA continues to promote Atlanta as a cultural destination through a variety of events and educational programming, including the Emerging Artist Award.

About the Emerging Artist Award
The Emerging Artist Award, presented by the City of Atlanta’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Contracts for Arts Services program, recognizes and rewards talented professional artists living and creating art in the City of Atlanta. By honoring these artists, the Office of Cultural Affairs aims to increase awareness of their work and further the careers and professional development of each individual.
