City of Atlanta’s Govathon Results in New Technology Applications
Citywide hackathon delivers two new applications to enhance city services
ATLANTA - The City of Atlanta, in partnership with Invest Atlanta, announced today two new applications created during the City’s first Govathon will be implemented by the Office of Parks and the Focus on Results Team in the Mayor’s Office. The announcement was made in celebration of National Day of Hacking, June 1, 2013.
“Govathon brought together top talent from Atlanta’s thriving technology community,” said Mayor Kasim Reed. “As a result, we have two new tools that will allow us to better serve our residents and enhance government services. Now more than ever, our city government has the potential to foster greater civic engagement and collaboration.”
The two applications, which will be implemented by the Office of Parks and the Focus on Results (FOR) Atlanta Team, housed within the Office of the Chief Operating Officer, include:
• Atlanta Park Find – A website that will provide detailed, searchable information on public parks. Park Find will have the ability to sort and select parks by amenities and allow users to setup online reservations to use park facilities. For more information, please visit

• FOR Atlanta web-based performance dashboard – An interactive web-based performance management tool that will provide residents, stakeholders and city officials with access to city performance data. The application is currently used internally for performance management and will be available to the public later this year.
In February, the City of Atlanta, in partnership with Invest Atlanta hosted the first citywide Govathon. Several City agencies pitched ideas and the Innovation Delivery Team for the City facilitated the collaboration. The Govathon attracted more than 150 programmers, developers, designers and community stakeholders for a marathon “hackathon” with the goal of developing applications and tools to enhance city services. The second Govathon event will take place toward the end of the year.
“Bringing these projects to the finish line is a great way of showing collaboration between the City, the startup community and the residents of Atlanta,” said Dr. Eloisa Klementich, managing director for business development at Invest Atlanta. “We look forward to hosting the second Govathon, and are committed to pursuing technological innovations to benefit the city.”
