 News Release

APD to participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The US Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration in partnership with the Atlanta Police Department is sponsoring a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day provides a safe and convenient means of disposing of prescription drugs. According to the 2011 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s national survey, raiding the medicine cabinet of friends or family is how 70 percent of pain prescription drug abusers sustained their abuse.

Earlier this year, the Atlanta Police Department collected 89.2 pounds of prescription pills for the Sixth National Take Back Initiative. The APD is encouraging citizens to participate by donating unused or expired medication at any precinct.
