Atlanta And Albany Police Departments Partner To Prevent Crime
The Atlanta and Albany, Georgia Police Departments have teamed up to prevent the most preventable crime, thefts from vehicles. Launched in 2009, the Clean Car Campaign is an awareness initiative that encourage business owners, employees and visitors to remove all valuables − such as purses, cell phones, GPS navigation systems, laptops and tablet computers− from unattended vehicles.
“The Clean Car campaign has been effective at educating our residents and visitors that you can prevent crime by simply keeping the inside of your car clean,” said Police Chief George N. Turner. “The Atlanta Police Department is proud to partner with the Albany Police Department to reduce crime and we hope that we can continue to spread awareness of this vital campaign.”
"Any campaign that encourages citizens to play an active role in stopping crime is beneficial,” said Albany Police Chief John A. Proctor. “The Clean Car Campaign is creative and offers common sense tips to stop car break-ins. The Albany Police Department is excited about the partnership and looks forward to making an impact towards reducing thefts from vehicles.”
The Atlanta Police Department has created a Public Service Announcement and a car hanger offering tips to prevent vehicle break-ins. The Atlanta Police Department has also partnered with Central Atlanta Progress and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and launched the 2014 Clean Car challenge. The challenge aims to reduce vehicle larcenies in the downtown Atlanta area by 100 percent. To join the Clean Car Campaign, contact APD Public Affairs at apdpublic-affairs@atlantaga.gov.
