 News Release

Atlanta Police Department To Host "Police In The Park" Events

Department invites the public to meet their officers and partner to prevent crime

The Atlanta Police Department is hosting several “Police in the Park” events and inviting the public to partner with the APD to prevent crime. These events are intended to give communities a chance to meet officers and receive relevant information on the services APD provides and learn how they can best be served.

“Police in the Park events are part of the Department’s summer program initiative,” said Police Chief George N. Turner. “We want to help residents especially children make positive choices and are proactively reaching out to the community.”

The first event will be held on Sunday, July 13 at John A. White Park from 1:00pm-4:00pm. There will be several tables set up with pertinent information, including representatives from the Police Athletic League, Crime Stoppers, Recruitment, Community Liaison Unit, Bike Patrol, Crime Prevention Inspectors, as well as our partner the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department. Citizens will be able to visit with the Mounted Patrol, meet Motormen, and see an APD helicopter. McGruff, the crime dog, will also be on hand to pass out crime prevention materials.

The summer safety initiative was created to significantly reduce crime and opportunities for criminals. Additional summer programs include summer camp at the Police Athletic League (June2-July18), National Night Out (August 5) and the Atlanta Police Foundation’s Atlanta's Finest 5k (August 23).
