Atlanta Police Ready For Big National Night Out

Department to participate in kick-off party; Encourages event registration

The Atlanta Police Department is ready to celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 between 5:00pm-8:00pm. Organized by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out encourages communities to partner with local law enforcement to increase crime prevention awareness.

“Preventing and solving crime is a community effort,” said Atlanta Police Chief George N. Turner. “National Night Out is an excellent program that helps the Department build relationships with citizens and create safer neighborhoods. This is one of the events we look forward to each year.”

There will be a kick-off party on Monday, July 28 from 6:00 -7:30 pm. The event serves as an opportunity for all National Night Out participants to meet public safety leaders. Event participants include Atlanta Deputy Chief Shawn Jones, Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran, Atlanta Department of Corrections Chief Pat Labat, Atlanta City Council President Ceasar C. Mitchell and Fulton County Chairman John Eaves. The kick-off meeting will be held in the Shamrock Gardens neighborhood located at 1988 Plaza Lane SW, Atlanta 30311.

If you are planning a National Night Out event and would like to request city officials to attend your event, you must register by Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Neighborhoods interested in participating can register by emailing Crime Prevention Inspector Sabrina Thomas at sabthomas@atlantaga.gov or by leaving a message at 404-546-5550. Sample events include community block parties, ice cream socials and community clean-ups. All Atlanta National Night Out activities are free, family-friendly and promote community pride and safety.

More than 37 million people across the country are expected to participate in National Night Out activities. For more information about the 31st anniversary of National Night Out, visit www.natw.org or call 1-800-NITE OUT.
