Atlanta Police Featured In Investigation Discovery (ID) Television Series
“Inside Homicide” premiering this week
The Atlanta Police Department Homicide Unit is featured in the television series Inside Homicide premiering on the Investigation Discovery cable network. The series highlighting the work of Atlanta Police Investigator Summer Benton, previously titled “Women of Homicide” on TLC, will be returning to air with a new home and a new name. Investigation Discovery will be updating the episodes and airing the series under the title INSIDE HOMICIDE, beginning Thursday, October 9 at 9 p.m..
There are approximately 15,000 homicides per year in the United States, with female detectives making up only 15% of those dedicated to solving these crimes. Inside Homicide takes an in-depth look at the challenges and triumphs of a homicide investigation through the eyes of female detectives in Atlanta and Cincinnati.
Investigator Benton has been with the Atlanta Police for 13 years and with the Homicide Unit for five years. Inspired to become a police officer by her father, Investigator Benton works hard to do her family legacy proud. In her short time on the job, she’s already solved 30 cases and has a special ability to connect with people of all backgrounds, which has earned her the role of Hostage Negotiator for the City of Atlanta.
“Our Homicide Unit is one of the best in the country, with clearance rates historically well above the national average,” said Chief George Turner. “Investigator Benton is an integral part of the Homicide Unit and gives the viewers a small glimpse of what it’s like to be a homicide detective in the City of Atlanta.”
