 News Release

Atlanta Police Department Hosts Community Meeting On Police and Transgender Interactions

The Atlanta Police Department (APD) will host a community meeting to address police interactions with the transgender community on Thursday, January 15 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at The Rush Center, 1530 Dekalb Ave, NE Atlanta, Georgia 30307.

APD representatives will include the Department’s LGBT Liaisons, Officers Eric King and Courtney Murphy, as well as APD Commanders with oversight of the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures and Office of Professional Standards.

Topics will include the important role of the LGBT Liaisons, ways to improve communication between the APD and the transgender community, and the recently-implemented Standard Operating Procedure regarding APD interactions with transgender, intersex and gender nonconforming individuals.

“We look forward to a meaningful dialogue between transgender citizens and the APD”, said Rodney Bryant, Deputy Chief of the Community Services Division. “APD’s Community Oriented Policing initiative recognizes that strong community partnerships help to reduce crime and increase safety. The LGBT Liaisons are instrumental in fostering these partnerships. Thursday’s meeting offers an additional opportunity to enhance communication and understanding between the APD and the transgender community.”
