Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced today the members of his committees that will oversee the search for new City Attorney and Public Works Commissioner.
The 10-member search committee for City Attorney is chaired by Nancy Rafuse (Ashe, Rafuse & Hill) and includes Teri McClure (UPS), Beth Chandler (Asbury Automotive Group), Doug Selby (Hunton & Williams), Paula Frederick (State Bar of Georgia), Frank Strickland (Strickland, Brockington Lewis), Ernest Greer (Greenberg Traurig), K Whitner (Paul Hastings) and Jeff Bramlett (Bondurant, Mixson & Elmore). The group is tasked with working with the search firm, Hughes Consulting, LLC to interview and recommend candidates to lead the City of Atlanta's legal team.
Former City Council President Cathy Woolard will serve at the chairperson for the Public Works Commissioner Search Committee. Other members of the committee include Han Choi, attorney with Schiff Hardin; Bill Fowler, chairman, PATH Foundation; Joan Garner, former chairwoman, NPU M, District 2 who led the development of the Old Fourth Ward Master Plan; Dan Graveline, immediate past president of the Georgia World Congress Center; David Hankerson, Cobb County Manager; Laura Seydel, community advocate and environmentalist; Chuck Taylor, principal, HT Group; and Ron Zirpoli, real estate businessman. Executive search firm, Hodge Partners, is working with this committee.
“With the naming of the Public Works and City Attorney Search Committees, we now have a full complement of teams seeking top talent for my cabinet. The search for these leaders is national in scope and we will attract the very best talent to the City of Atlanta,” said Reed. “As we move towards development of the Beltline and other programs that will bring jobs and businesses to Atlanta, I want to be certain I have the best ideas, the best advice, and the best minds available to help guide our administration.”
Lisa Borders, who along with Lawrence Ashe co-chairs the larger Transition Team, said she expects each of the search committees to provide three to five candidates to the larger body for review. Once the Transition Team makes final recommendations, Reed will choose the candidate for each of the positions. The process will take about 120 days.
“Now is the time for everyone to roll up their sleeves and get to work, as we search for the best possible talent to move Atlanta forward. Mayor Reed indicated to me that he is interested in deliberate, rigorous and transparent searches; he is also clearly committed to the most inclusive processes that Atlanta has ever experienced,” Borders said.
Each of the search firms supporting the search committees is contributing their work pro bono.
