Atlanta Police Welcome 40 New Police Officers

 

The Atlanta Police Department is proud to announce the graduation of Class 238 to be held at North Atlanta High School, 4111 Northside Pkwy, NW, on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Three awards will be given out to include Valedictorian, Physical Fitness, and Firearms.

Class 238 consists of 32 men and 8 women. Ten people have military experience and 21 are college graduates. This class is reflective of the citizens we protect with African-American, Caucasian, Hispanic, and Asian ethnicities represented. More than 20 of the graduates moved to Atlanta specifically to join this Department. 

The keynote speaker for the ceremony is Mr. Rob Baskin, President & General Manager of Weber Shandwick, Atlanta. Mr. Baskin directs a team of consumer, corporate, B2B, foodservice and public affairs specialists. Prior to joining Weber Shandwick, he had 15-year tenure at The Coca-Cola Company where he was Director of Corporate Communications, Director of International Media Relations, Director of U.S. Public Relations, and Director of Marketing Communications. Baskin earned a BA in Political Science and an MA in Journalism from The Ohio State University. He serves on the Boards of the Atlanta Police Foundation, the Georgia Council on Economic Education, and the Georgia Center for Nonprofits. 

The graduation ceremony concludes 22 weeks of rigorous training at the Atlanta Police Academy, along with 12 weeks of field training with veteran officers. The training includes classroom courses in constitutional law, Atlanta Police Department policy and procedure, hands-on defensive tactics, arrest techniques and daily physical fitness.
