Mayor Reed Announces CFO Search Team Committee to Conduct National Search

Post Date:02/10/2010
February 10, 2010 - Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced today the members of his committee that will oversee the search for new city Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The committee is tasked with working with the search firm Spencer Stuart to interview and recommend candidates to lead the City of Atlanta’s financial team.

The 10-member committee is chaired by Jim Hannan, CEO and President, Georgia Pacific.

“My goal is to have someone in the CFO position who will help guide our city through the toughest economies Atlanta has faced in modern memory. I need a strong partner to ensure Atlanta meets our obligations and is prepared for the future,” said Reed.

Other members of the committee include: Jim Glass, the immediate past CFO for the city; Larry Cooper, principal, Bentley Investments, Inc.; Constance Barkley-Lewis, principal, SmartWork Strategy Partners; Susan Bell, managing partner, Ernst & Young; Jocelyn Hunter, attorney, Home Depot; Milton Jones, managing partner, Integrated Capital Strategies; Vicki Palmer, CFO (retired),Coca-Cola Enterprises; Larry Patrick, director and chief diversity officer, Pricewaterhouse Coopers; and former mayoral candidate Jesse Spikes, McKenna Long.

Lisa Borders, who along with Lawrence Ashe co-chairs the larger Transition Team, said she expects the CFO search committee to provide three to five candidates to the larger body for review. Once the Transition Team makes a recommendation, Reed will choose the CFO.

Borders said the process was very important and she is grateful to Spencer Stuart for providing the search framework to the city pro bono.

“The success of everything the city does relies on a healthy budget and sound financial planning. It is vital to Mayor Reed that this search be rigorous to ensure the most qualified candidate is recruited. The city and her citizens deserve the best,” Borders said.

Borders and Ashe said they expect the search process to take about 120 days.
