 News Release

Atlanta Police, DEA, GSP Make Heroin/Methamphetamine Bust

One of the largest Heroin recoveries in City’s History

On May 5, 2015, Atlanta Police Narcotics Team 3 and the DEA Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Team (CLET), supported by Georgia State Patrol executed a search warrant at 1931 Compton Dr SE in Zone 3 in Atlanta, GA.  Investigators discovered a fully operational methamphetamine conversion laboratory.

“These law enforcement agencies worked together to discover a major drug operation that will prevent dangerous drugs from being distributed in our city,” said Deputy Chief of Criminal Investigations Darryl Tolleson.

Approximately 107lbs of crystal methamphetamine and 36.8 lbs of heroin were recovered. The heroin is valued at approximately $4.9 million and the methamphetamine is valued at approximately $3.2 million.  All combined it would have a street value of more than 8.1 million.  Also recovered was a currency counting machine and a vacuum sealer.

At the location, officers also discovered several cylindrical coolers containing liquid methamphetamine as well as 43 plastic containers of containing crystalized methamphetamine.  In addition, there were 14 boxes of, what was initially believed to be candy.  Further investigation revealed this ‘candy’ was actually heroin disguised in candy boxes.

During the bust, Mr. Mario Hernandez-Mojica was arrested and charged with VGCSA Trafficking.

“We value our collaboration with the DEA and GSP because without them this operation would not have been possible,” said Chief George Turner. “This is a major win for our city.”
