 News Release

Atlanta Police Increases Social Media Presence

The Atlanta Police Department is offering citizens new ways to connect with officers and the Department through social media. APD recently joined Periscope and live streams special events which is later added to the Department’s YouTube Channel.

“We want to make sure that our citizens have multiple opportunities to engage with us,” said Chief George Turner. “Social media is an ideal platform to increase our community outreach and share how Atlanta officers are fighting crime.”

Additionally, Smokey, a horse with the Mounted Patrol Unit, joined Twitter. Citizens are encouraged to follow Smokey (@APD Smokey) and hear from the horse’s mouth about patrolling beats and participating in special details, such as festivals, parades and other community events.
