City of Atlanta to Host Emergency Preparedness Summit for Faith-Based Organizations

Summit will educate faith-based groups conducting global mission trips

ATLANTA – The City of Atlanta announced today that the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Preparedness will partner with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, Georgia Department of Health, Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency, Fulton County Department of Health and Emory University TravelWell Center to host a community outreach Emergency Preparedness Summit geared to faith-based organizations. The summit will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Georgia Tech Research Institute Conference Center, located at 250 14th Street, NW in Atlanta.

The Emergency Preparedness Summit will discuss and provide preparedness and prevention tips for communicable diseases such as Zika, Chickenganua and West Nile virus while traveling overseas and in the United States.

“We are proud to be a part of this collaborative effort to help local residents increase their knowledge and awareness,” said Ria C. Aiken, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Preparedness. “As organizations in the City of Atlanta prepare for their domestic and global missions to support vulnerable populations, emergency preparedness is key to ensuring a safe trip and a successful return.”

The event coincides with national “PrepareAthon! Day”, which encourages local governments, companies, non-profit organizations and families to take steps toward broadening emergency preparedness and situational awareness.

Space is limited to the first 100 participants, with a two-ticket limit. For more information, please call 404-956-6930 or email COAEmergencyPrep@AtlantaGa.Gov.
