Atlanta Police Names a New LGBT Liaison
(Atlanta) – The Atlanta Police Department is proud to announce the new LGBT Liaison, Officer Acashia Lavigeour. Officer Lavigeour will join Officer Eric King as one of two LGBT Liaisons for the department. She replaces Officer C.J. Murphy who has been transferred to the Gang Unit.
Off. Lavigeour, a native of Fort Pierce, FL, joined the department in 2012 after graduating from Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. She has served in Zone 5 and the Criminal Investigations Division (A.P.E.X. Unit). Prior to joining APD, she worked as a Correctional Officer for the Florida Department of Corrections.
“The LGBT Unit is moving in a positive direction and I look forward to fostering partnerships with members of the LGBT community,” said Lavigeour. “I’m happy to be a part of the unit and excited about the great community engagement programs that are on the horizon.”
The department’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender liaison officers are tasked with improving communication and relationships with the community, as well as increasing awareness and training on LGBT issues within the department.
