Atlanta Police Path Force and Atlanta Fire Rescue Mobile Medics Partner to Patrol the Atlanta BeltLine
(Atlanta) – Atlanta Police Department’s Path Force Unit and the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department’s Mobile Medics have joined forces to keep the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail safe and secure.
The Mobile Medics recently teamed up with the Path Force Unit to provide emergency medical service to citizens on the BeltLine. Mobile Medics are utilizing bicycles, equipped with emergency medical supplies and an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), allowing them to quickly respond to medical emergencies along the trail, where an ambulance or fire engine may not have access. The most common medical emergencies include; injuries from falls, heat-related illnesses, and difficulty breathing. The AFRD Mobile Medics are currently patrolling the Eastside Trail on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
“EMS response is a critical factor for the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, said Fire Chief Joel G. Baker. Atlanta Fire Rescue Department’s partnership with the Path Force Unit allows us to be visible and accessible to Atlanta citizens and visitors who use the BeltLine’s Eastside Trail.”
The Atlanta Police Department’s Path Force Unit began patrolling the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside, Westside and Northside Trails as well as the adjacent parks, in July 2013. The Unit patrols seven days a week and their presence has helped to deter crime along the trails. Members of the Unit are also actively involved in community policing efforts in the communities along the trails.
“Bike patrols allow officers and firefighters to maneuver through areas where patrol cars just can’t go,” said Chief George Turner. “This partnership between Atlanta Police and Atlanta Fire Rescue boosts our community engagement efforts and allow us to interact with citizens and visitors.”
