 News Release

Large Crowds Expected For Music Midtown Event

(Atlanta) – Atlanta Police are preparing to manage crowds and traffic related to Music Midtown this Saturday and Sunday in Piedmont Park. Thousands of people are anticipated to participate in activities and events in the area of Piedmont Avenue and Monroe Drive, where the Music Midtown event is set to take place. Performances begin at 12:30 p.m. on both days are scheduled into the evening hours.

The Atlanta Police Department has a comprehensive security plan in place for the activities associated with Music Midtown. The security plan includes a strong law enforcement presence, consisting of both on-duty and off-duty Atlanta Police Officers. Additional police presence in the form of Mounted Patrol and our Path Force bicycle patrols will be available to assist with traffic and security issues. The Atlanta Police Department has adequate preparations in place to handle this weekend’s events.

“We have a comprehensive plan in place to manage the event,” said Chief George Turner. “We want those in attendance to have an enjoyable weekend and our officers will be working diligently to ensure that happens.”

Parking around the venue is extremely limited which means officials will be ticketing and towing illegally-parked vehicles. Attendees are encouraged to take MARTA or other alternate modes of transportation. If you must drive, please be respectful of nearby homes and businesses. Avoid blocking driveways and please do not park illegally. In addition, there will be road closures primarily in the area of 10th street between Piedmont and Monroe Drive.

Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead for increased motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Other tips include:

  • Follow the Clean Car Campaign by parking in designated areas and removing all valuables from vehicles such as tablets, smart phones and purses.
  • Event goers are encouraged to call 9-1-1 or approach a police officer if they see any suspicious activity or a suspicious package left unattended.
