The Reed Administration’s Response to Comments Made by Peter Aman to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Sunday, November 5, 2017
Statement by Tom Sabulis
ATLANTA - “Peter Aman is lying. He’s running on his record as Mayor Reed’s Chief Operating Officer, and working at City Hall with Mayor Reed. He says he never saw corruption at any time during his two years of service. He claimed he kept the number for the U.S. Attorney on his desk, yet he couldn’t find that number earlier this year when he alleges someone approached him with an inappropriate offer for fundraising support.
Peter Aman enjoyed working with the Reed Administration so much that he walked away from a multi-million dollar salary to spend not one but two years as Mayor Reed’s COO. Let’s be clear: he pleaded with Mayor Reed to spend a second year at City Hall so he could cleanse his resume of his poisonous Bain & Co. associations, in order to run for Mayor.
The bottom line, unfortunately, is that we are watching a person who misused public service for his own personal gain and aggrandizement come apart. After having spent more than one million dollars of his own money, and seeing his polling numbers collapse, he is growing desperate. This is now the fourth time that he has decided to attack Mayor Reed, although the Mayor had never been critical of him.
Simply stated, he is lying once again. He should be ashamed of himself for how low he has sunk in these last few weeks and days of campaigning.
Notably, none of these comments concerning the Mayor or his Administration were made until Mayor Reed made the decision to endorse the best candidate in the race for Mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms.
Fortunately, Atlanta’s voters will have the opportunity to render their judgment on November 7. We look forward to their decision.”
