Master Planning and Design Process

 Restoration Memorial and Preserve

The City of Atlanta is initiating a master planning process, called the Restoration Memorial & Preserve, to study the potential for a public green space and memorial at the former Atlanta Prison Farm site. The effort builds on recommendations from the Community Stakeholder Advisory Committee (CSA) and the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center Task Force to provide public access to this significant, historic landscape. The city’s vision is to create a sustainable green space that strengthens the ecology of the South River watershed and provides the community opportunities for remembrance, reflection, recreation, and healing for generations to come.

The Restoration Memorial & Preserve process seeks to reconnect people, land, and history through a design process rooted in listening, learning, and shared stewardship. Each engagement activity—whether a survey, stakeholder session, or public meeting—builds collective understanding of the site’s layered past, the community’s current needs and aspirations, and the city’s shared responsibility for green space that contributes to a sustainable and equitable future.
