2026 Summer Internship Program

The City of Atlanta Department of Law is pleased to introduce the 2026 Summer Internship Program. This program provides rising 2L and 3L law students who are interested in public sector law the opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals while gaining knowledge and improving legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.

The Department of Law is a full-service in-house law practice that is vested with exclusive authority and jurisdiction in all matters of law relating to the executive and legislative branches of City of Atlanta government and every department, office, division, bureau, institution, commission, committee, board, and agency of the City. The Department of Law represents the City of Atlanta in a wide range of commercial transactions; litigates all matters on behalf of the City of Atlanta; defends city officials and employees in civil litigation arising from the performance of their official duties; provides written legal opinions on questions of law connected with the interest of the City of Atlanta to the Mayor, department heads, and the president or members of the Atlanta City Council; attends all meetings of the Atlanta City Council and meetings of the committees of the council as requested; supervises, administers, and manages all workers’ compensation claims under O.C.G.A. § 34-9-1, et seq.; and performs any other service that is consistent with the usual and customary duties of municipal corporation counsel. The City of Atlanta Department of Law Summer Internship Program offers participants the unique opportunity to gain experience in this multifaceted practice, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting with the provision of legal advice and counsel services to various departments within the City;
  • Learning civil litigation skills and assisting with trial preparation; and,
  • Gaining transactional law experience by assisting Attorneys with legal research and drafting.

Compensation: $17.50 an hour

Application Deadline: March 6, 2026

Interviews:  March 16 – March 27, 2026

Program Timeline: June 8, 2026 – July 31, 2026
