2025-2027 Solid Waste Service Rate
Residential Solid Waste Billing and Rate Update
Residential solid waste bills for the current billing cycle are delayed. Bills are issued directly by Fulton and DeKalb counties, and the timing differs by county:
- Fulton County: Bills are expected to be issued in mid-September.
- DeKalb County: The billing date has not yet been finalized and will be announced as soon as it is available.
What to Expect on Your Bill
The Atlanta Department of Public Works recently completed a comprehensive Solid Waste Rate Study to assess the cost of providing solid waste, recycling, yard trimming, and bulk-item collection services citywide. Based on the study’s findings, the City adopted updated rates to better align customer charges with the cost of providing these services.
As a result, some customers will notice a slight increase in their solid waste bill, while others will see a decrease or no change.

Department of Public Works Rate Adjustments
The City Utilities Committee of the Atlanta City Council held a public hearing on July 9, 2024, on adopted legislation, 24-O-1214, to amend the code to adjust the taxes, assessments, service fees, and charges for solid waste services.
Solid Waste Bill/Charge Disputes
The Department of Public Works requires that customers submit any billing dispute no less than seven (7) days prior to the due date of a disputed solid waste bill. This follows Code Section 130-85(b): "A customer shall submit a dispute on a form provided by the city no less than seven days prior to the due date of a disputed solid waste bill."
To dispute a solid waste bill, download and complete the DPW Solid Waste Dispute Form and submit it to DPWSolidWasteBilling@atlantaga.gov with the Subject Line: Solid Waste Bill Dispute.
Solid Waste Dispute Appeals
Residents have the right to appeal dispute decision to the Solid Waste Appeals Board. The appeal must be submitted within seven (7) business days of receiving your notice.
You can appeal a Solid Waste dispute by completing the attached DPW Appeals Form. Download the Appeals Request Form, complete it, and submit it to DPWSolidWasteBilling@atlantaga.gov with the Subject Line: Solid Waste Appeals Board.
