Bulk Waste Collection
Bulk collection services help keep residential communities clean and safe. Knowing what items can and cannot be placed at the curb helps prevent delays, fines, and violations of the City of Atlanta Municipal Code 130-40.
What Is Bulk Collection?
Bulk collection is a scheduled service for single-family residential customers, designed to remove large household items, yard debris, and specific approved materials that cannot be placed in regular trash carts.
Bulk Collection Guidelines
As of February 16, 2026, bulk collections are scheduled on the resident’s regular weekly collection day.

All bulk collections must be scheduled.
- Bulk materials should be placed neatly at the curbside after 7:00 p.m. on the day before the scheduled collection in accordance with the City’s municipal code.
Failure to comply may result in a Notice of Violation for the first occurrence, requiring the property owner to remove or properly prepare the materials at their own expense. Continued noncompliance may result in the issuance of a citation and other enforcement penalties up to $1,000 per offense.
- Place bulk materials at least six (6) feet away from solid waste and recycling carts, and yard trimmings. Bulk materials that are placed too closely together may delay one or both services.
- Materials should not be placed in the street, on the sidewalk, or in any other rights-of-way, or in any manner that would interfere with pedestrian or vehicular traffic.
- Bulk materials should not be stacked under low-hanging wires, near mailboxes, fences, utility meters, fire hydrants, or in a way that blocks sidewalks or streets.
- Bulk collection is not available for debris from business operations, manufacturing, new construction, demolition, or materials from rental properties.
- Residents are allowed up to 12 bulk collection appointments per year. Requests exceeding the 12 annual call-ins scheduling service will incur a fee per municipal code 130-84.
Approved Bulk Materials
The City will collect the following items when properly prepared and scheduled:
- Barbecue grills
- Building materials exceeding four (4) cubic yards not generated by contractors (e.g., bricks, concrete blocks, drywall, and wood)
- Carpet
- Flat glass (must be securely wrapped or taped)
- Household appliances (e.g., dryers, refrigerators, stoves, washers)
- Household furniture
- Mattresses and box springs
- Railroad ties (cut to four (4) feet or less)
- Tires (up to four (4) tires total)
- Yard waste (no more than eight (8) cubic yards)
Bulk Materials Not Accepted
- Building materials exceeding four (4) cubic yards (e.g., bricks, concrete blocks, drywall, and wood)
- Electronics (e.g., computers, printers, and televisions)
- Explosives or ammunition
- Household hazardous waste (e.g., oils, fuels, paints, solvents)
- Materials generated by contractors hired by a resident to perform work on residential property (contractors are responsible for debris removal)
- Metal Drums
- Pressurized gas cylinders
