Faith Based Development Initiative
Launched in partnership with Enterprise Community Partners, the Mayor's Faith-based Development Initiative (FBDI) provides technical assistance to faith-based organizations seeking to activate underutilized land for the purpose of creating of affordable housing.
The initiative was created in February 2022 with the goal of producing 2,000 affordable units – 10% of the Mayor’s 20,000 unit goal–on land held by faith-based organizations. In November 2023, the Mayor announced a $500,000 forgivable loan program for faith-based organizations to conduct critical pre-development work such as appraisals, surveys, and architectural renderings.
As of March 2024, more than 1,600 affordable units are advancing through the FBDI pipeline. A $98,400 infusion of funding in 2024 supports advanced technical assistance for faith-based organizations who are furthest along in the development process.
